JULY 1961. |
SOCIAL CENTRE NOTES. |
At last, all the promised alterations to the cafe and kitchen have been carried out, so, for the present, we are free from workmen, and enjoying the benefits of their efforts. |
One alteration this term has been the closing of the Social Centre on Thursdays to all except 'R' Company. This allows the recruits a little longer period to enjoy the amenities of the Centre during their weekly visit. |
A most successful social was held at the beginning of term, when the latest skiffle group was the centre of attraction. |
Another new venture was our Summer Fair. Fortunately we chose a fine day and the gratifying sum of £17 was handed over for the Army Benevolent Fund. It would be difficult to say who enjoyed it most - those spending their money or the stall-holders who produced some excellent ideas for side-shows. The skill of the competitors was such that at one stage the "Road Test" stall had actually paid out so many prizes that it was showing a loss! However the stall-holders are already asking if they can hold another similar event next term. Our thanks too, must go to the Wives Club who provided and sold such a delectable array of cakes on their stall. |
