Leader Magazine
JULY 1961.
'D' COMPANY NOTES.
J/Cpl. Boss is to be congratulated on being the first boy in the Company to gain a complete Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award.
A native of Birmingham he joined the Regiment in September, 1959, and will graduate at the end of the winter term when he will join the Royal Leicestershire Regiment. Like all good infantrymen, George Boss intends to become an expert in small arms and is already a member of the Regimental .22 shooting team. It is his skill as a marksman that has gained Cpl. Boss his Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards in the hobbies section. A former student of Paget Road School, a name familiar to many boys in the Regiment, he has continued to work hard for the very important education certificates he will need to gain promotion in his Regiment. Having already passed his Junior and Intermediate certificates, Cpl. Boss is now working for his Senior, which he hopes to complete soon.
It is reported that an unknown Junior Leader has used one of the recently issued ironing tables for ironing. Fortunately it was not damaged and has since been returned to the safety of the platoon store where the asbestos plate will again be fitted to the underside of the table.
The Company hockey team, selected to represent the Regiment in the Mid West Hockey Championships, proved worthy of their selection by beating A.A.S. Chepstow in the final by five goals to nil, so winning the championship.
The cricket eleven began the season well with a convincing three wicket win over `B' Company.
