Leader Magazine
JULY 1961.
'B' COMPANY NOTES.
'B' Company's four reformed Platoons got off to a good start this term, and despite weather appropriate to winter sports, soon got down to training and athletics. We were very pleased to have newcomers Lt. R. McDonnell, Lt. M. Gillespie and Sgt. R.D. Moyes.
The Commonwealth Technical Training week carried some of the Company far and wide: J/R.S.M. Roper to have luncheon at Cardiff with the Duke of Edinburgh, J/Cpl. Watson and Junior Leaders White and Irvine to Northern Ireland and J/L/Bdr. Broomfield and J/Gnr. Doran to Lancashire. During the term first Gallipoli then Somme acted as hosts to parties of cadets from Montgomery and Merioneth.
Menai Camp this term was for the period 2-5 June and the Company had a pleasant time in good weather. Some very persistent and well equipped fishermen were seen on the island, but fish and chips did not appear on the menu!
Our congratulations to J/R.S.M. Roper who, besides being the Company's first J/R.S.M., was first in the Company to qualify for the Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award, to J/C.S.M. Watts on his promotion, and to J/Gnr. Doran who has got through the National Stage N.S.R.A. Diamond Jubilee Year Competition. He has already won the Bronze Medal for this Competition. We also congratulate our winning team in the Inter Company Quiz Cup, J/Cpl. Beattie, J/Gnr. Doran and J/Ptes. Olson and Coen, and the members of the Small Bore Team which won the Army Boys Small Bore Cup, J/Cpl. Shipway, J/Gnrs. Doran and Widdowson.
