Leader Magazine
JULY 1961.
'A' COMPANY NOTES.
In common with the other companies we have lost several old faces and welcomed many new - both in Permanent Staff and Junior Leaders. Lt. Beckingsale left us and was replaced by Lt. Peplow as Balaclava Platoon Commander. Lt. Coombes joined us and Sgt. Bott rejoined us to form a new Knightsbridge Platoon and Sgt. Thompson replaced Sgt. Mason at half term as Imphal Platoon Sergeant.
Many of the more senior Junior Leaders have been working hard for the G.C.E. examinations and we expect good results. J/Cpl. Fowler and J/L/Cpl. Cook were members of the Regimental Shooting Team which won the Small Bore Shooting Cup. Amongst other individual achievements J/L/Bdr. Frosdick achieved the Gold Standard in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and ex J/C.S.M. Bradley, who left us at the end of last term, was presented with his Gold Award Badge and Certificate by the Duke of Edinburgh at Holyrood Palace on 28th June. Also J/Sgt. Jeffery is to be congratulated on being promoted J/Sgt. in Knightsbridge Platoon.
In the Army Junior Leaders Individual Athletics Championships, J/Sgt. Tosdevine did particularly well, establishing Regimental Records in the High Jump (5ft. 6ins.) and the Pole Vault (9ft. 6ins.).
Apart from normal Regimental and Company activities, the Company visited Menai Bridge Camp from 30th June until 3rd July, where it had an enjoyable, if eventful time.
