Leader Magazine
DECEMBER 1960.
ARCHERY CLUB NOTES.
This term the club has "shot" away to a good start, having a group of really interested members. The club welcomed Sergeant Potter RAEC, who had, prior to his Army-Service, been interested in the sport.
With the ending of British Summer Time, outdoor sport became restricted by poor light, but the problem has been solved by the construction of an indoor range, where the potential Robin Hoods can show that rifles aren't the only accurate weapons in the Army.
Members have also constructed a set of eight arrows for their personal use, and much originality has been shown in the painting of these, although we are assured that any resemblance to Indian war-arrows is coincidental! A set of well finished arrows is necessary for the award of the Bronze in the Duke of Edinburghs Scheme.
Later, the construction of bows, a far more complex matter than arrow making, is to be attempted.
Next Spring, the club will visit some of the homes of English archery, which will help our members to appreciate the considerable national interest in the sport.
