St Fagg's Day Luncheon 2019 Civil Service Club, Whitehall.
The St. Fagg’s Day Lunch took place on 4th. April 2019 at The Civil Service Club.
The lunch followed SOP's with pre-lunch drinks in a very busy main bar with progression in due course to the traditional "long lunch" period in the main dining room.
As always we were last out of the dining area as tables were being set up by the staff for the evening session. So back down to the main bar to decimate what remained of the drinks "kitty".
There were a couple of changes to the lunch this year. Which where:-
A) The first welcome attendance of wives and partners - net result much better (almost) behavior at lunch table and a sharp increase in the wine bill! The loyal toast was designated to Mrs Cook* to mark the first deployment of The St Fagg's Girls Brigade.
* Executed in good military style - not sure what other diners made of the situation as lunch president Richard Abraham stood up and announced "Mrs Vice" to invite Mrs C to present the toast to the assembled Faggsters!
B) Also it was first time I had restriction on numbers imposed by The CSC. We managed to seat 18 for lunch which meant I had to disappoint and number of regular attendees who wanted to book after I got to 18 names.
The max numbers was due to heavy bookings on the day by other organisations and groups. To overcome this situation for St. Fagg’s Day Lunch 2020 I will be book 2 months in advance instead of 1 month in advance which has been the norm to date.
As always the combination of good company, good food and a slight alcoholic haze combined to make for an enjoyable afternoon (and for some hardy souls an evening too ) - ever onward to next year's bash.
