Reunions
2015

REPORT OF THE 12th
ANNUAL REUNION OF THE
AAJLR COMRADES ASSOCIATION

Once again members travelled to Mid Wales for yet another successful reunion. Numbers have dwindled over the years (43 attending and only twenty eight were ex Juniors). A special mention for Ken Hare and his good lady Lynne who had arrived from Australia. The proceedings began with a Friday night carvery which as usual was superb. This was followed by a few warmers into the bank and a chance for new members to mix. We awoke on the Saturday to find there was no let up with the weather and strong winds continued to pound Barmouth and the surrounding hills. Luckily the weather improved and it cleared enough for Ken Hare, Dave Hughes, Mike Shannon, Chris Herbert, Johnny Thompson and Brian Marjoram to climb Cader. Well done to you all.
A trip to the camp and to see the new bridge was made by train and car. The AGM was held at 1730 hrs. The details of the minutes will appear in the Minutes of the meeting on the Comrades website. Two items from the AGM were that we have a new Secretary. James Sherville has been voted in as the new Secretary. Mike Owsley has had to retire due to Trisha’s ill health and the other is that subscriptions will be increased to £10.00 on 1Jan 2016.
Before we sat down at 1930 for the reunion dinner a short silence was observed for those Juniors who have left us in 2015, namely, Sam Cribben, Chris Elsey and John Wiseman. We Will Remember Them. Once again the food was first class. The usual “Junior Leaders Disco” played 60's music in the background. They seem to get better every year. The toasts followed on and Dennis Parry proposed a toast to the Regiment with Herbie toasting the Ladies. The raffle was conducted by Val Truelove and Ruth Hattersley who collected £138 with the proceeds going to Combat Stress. The night continued, with reminiscing and war stories. Next year’s reunion will be over the weekend 1-3 April 2016. After a hearty breakfast members departed promising that they would return again next year! The Welsh Taliban was deployed East of Ruthin in a transit van – he missed me!!
