Reunions
2010

Reunion Report From Larry Smith

Just a short report on the AAJLR Comrades Association's 7th. Annual Reunion. Firstly I can't believe it! No speeding ticket this year. JT commiserations on receiving a ticket.
Once again former Junior Leaders, Permanent Staff and their wives and partners travelled from all parts of the United Kingdom to attend the annual reunion. I'm sure the majority will say it was "the best yet". A superb weekend. The staff of the Myn-y-Mar Hotel were once again very helpful and they made sure that we were well catered for throughout the weekend. Friday night was the usual meet and greet and allowed for a few "warmers into the bank". It was pleasing to see more newcomers at their first reunion. The Friday evening meal was a Carvery that was enjoyed by all.
Saturday's weather was a mixture of sunshine and rain. Rene Dee went up Cader Idris once again with some hardy volunteers. It was then off to the train station, for most, full steam ahead to the camp on the train. Sadly the train timetable this year meant that we could only stay at the camp for 15 minutes.
Members gathered in the dining area for the Annual AGM at 1700 hours. Business was discussed and the minutes will be published shortly. It was agreed that the 2011 reunion would be held on Saturday 27th. March 2011.
Eighty Five people attended the evening function, which included a sit down buffet, raffle and disco. The food was plentiful. A short silence was observed for those members who had died in the last year namely the Late Bill Straughan and Brendan Cavanagh – We Will Remember Them .There was a toast to the Regiment by Richard Abraham and a toast to the ladies proposed by Herbie Slaughter. The Disco was run by Rick and Ruth Wise. They were superb once again! A "blind" raffle was conducted and a vote of thanks must go to Val Truelove and Ruth Hattersley for selling the tickets. The sum of £362 was raised. This will be split between our Webmaster, Ken Hart and Combat Stress. The dance floor was well used up until midnight!!
We were greeted on the Sunday morning with fine weather and sore heads. After a hearty breakfast members departed promising to return in 2011. Thanks to Mike Owsley for putting it all together, to Richard Abraham's great enthusiasm and dedication to the association throughout the year and to Stan Green for once again providing the table decorations. I believe the best yet! Roll on next year!!
