I was at Tonfanau from late November 1955 (after my initial 2 weeks at Oswestry) until November 1957. I was quite good at athletics and knew I would not be posted as Training Regiments in those days collected sportsman. I was told I would be the RSM’s clerk but not until the present incumbent had been demobbed a few months later. I kicked my heels for a while after training and was then given a temporary job as a batman to the 2i/c, Major Mills. I was really more a home help as I used to go to his house every day, where his wife would make me a cuppa and basically I did odd jobs like shopping etc and I think I may have cut the grass a couple of times. The other day, I was trying to remember where the house was – I know it was past the T A camp on the left going towards Towyn - and I stumbled on your website. I had a short time doing that and then spent the rest of the time as the RSM’s clerk with my main job being compiling, typing, duplicating and delivering Regimental Part 1 Orders. Geoff Manning
