Leader Magazine
WINTER 1962.
SOCIAL CENTRE GOSSIP.
Once again the battle is on to see which Company has the "Brain of Tonfanau". The first round of the inter-company quiz was a most exciting affair when 'C' Company managed to beat last year's winners 'A' Company. 'B' and 'D' Companies meet in the next round and the final should be really exciting.
Only one social was held this term, and very few girls attended. We shall have to do some canvassing next term to make the socials worthwhile.
Five games evenings have been held, when members of the Officers' Mess and W.O.'s and Sgts' Mess have answered the challenges of our snooker, table tennis and darts teams and although the Social Centre teams are not often victorious - at least we are good losers! These evenings are most enjoyable, and do give the boys an opportunity to meet the permanent staff on a more informal basis.
Now we are busy getting ready for the "Winter Fair", the proceeds of which will go towards providing Christmas Gifts for the Old People's Home in Towyn.
This term we say goodbye to three very long-standing members of the Committee, Sgt. Holmes, Cpl. Phillips and Pte. Dowding. They have all done a very good job and worked well, and we wish them every success when they join their Regiments.
It was a very sad day when we said goodbye to Captain Fisher. We all miss his unfailing help and cheerful smile and are glad to hear that he has already met some of our 'old boys' in his new posting. Meanwhile we welcome Captain Stitt and hope he will enjoy being with us.
