SPRING 1962. |
FOREWORD. |
by Colonel J. F. LAKE, M.C. |
On the afternoon of December 21st, I witnessed the presentation of Gold Awards by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh to sixteen Junior Leaders of the Regiment at St. James's Palace. This provided a fitting reward to those Junior Leaders and members of the Permanent Staff who have worked tirelessly over the past three years to build up the spirit of service, of perseverance and self-reliance so essential in the development of character and powers of leadership for the future Warrant Officers and Senior NCOs of the Regular Army whom we are endeavouring to train. It may be of interest to note that these sixteen award winners represented over half the total number of awards presented to the Army on this occasion. |
Our Christmas term ended on a happy note with the Regimental football team winning the Army Junior Cup at Aldershot by 3 goals to 2 after a most exciting match against the Junior Leaders Regiment (R.A.). Our Christmas Graduation Parade was taken by our District Commander, Major-General R. G. F. Frisby, C.B.E., D.S.O., M.C., who gave us a most inspiring address after presenting the Prizes. |
To mark the third anniversary of the formation of the Regiment this Easter, the Director General of Military Training, Lieutenant General Sir Charles L. Richardson, K.C.B., C.B.E., D.S.O., B.A., has kindly agreed to take the Graduation Parade. Originally founded to take the overflow of Junior Leaders from the Royal Armoured Corps, Royal Artillery, Royal Signals and Infantry Units, the Regiment has expanded to include the Intelligence Corps, Royal Army Service Corps, Royal Military Police and Royal Pioneer Corps. It is now truly an All Arms Regiment and members of the Permanent Staff have been re-badged to keep in line with this expansion. |
Our charter has allowed us to devote more time to education and the development of character through adventure training. That this policy has proved successful is reflected in the splendid progress made by the 540 Junior Leaders who have already graduated to the Regiments or Corps of their choice and who are proving their worth as responsible young NCO's and soldiers throughout the world. |
At the end of this term I hand over command of the Regiment to my successor, Colonel T. Lash, O.B.E. I wish to take this opportunity of thanking All Ranks of the Permanent Staff, the Civilian Staff and the Junior Leaders for the loyal and enthusiastic support they have given me at all times. You have helped to make the past three years the happiest and most rewarding of my Army career. I know you will give the same support to my successor. Good Luck and Good Fortune be with you always. |
