Leader Magazine
WINTER 1961.
'D' COMPANY NOTES.
Firstly we would like to extend a hearty welcome to all our forty-seven new arrivals who have recently joined us from 'R' Company. They have all settled themselves in now, and some of them have already proved their worth in the sporting world. We would like to congratulate J/Bdr. Greveson on gaining his Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award this term.
Seven of our number must be mentioned as they came back early from leave to practise and take part in the Western Command Open Shooting Championships at Altcar. They were J/Sgt. Boss, J/L/Cpls. Coldwell, Plowright, J/Tprs. Chippington, Cosby, Sherratt and J/Sig. Dickason. They all distinguished themselves by putting up an excellent performance and returned to camp weighed down by an enormous number of cups.
This term a novices boxing competition was instigated and the Company Commander was overjoyed to see the Company so well represented. Each contestant gave of his best and the competition was, without doubt, a complete success. From this, the Boxing Officer has chosen a strong Regimental team, and it has as a nucleus, a good percentage of the company.
Menai Camp this term went off with a swing and at Beddgelert, Cambrai Platoon did quite a bit of rock climbing. While abseiling a certain face J/Sig. Watson found himself at the end of a rope and had to be pulled up on the ascent. J/Rfn. Robertson is said to be a budding chef at the cookery hobby and the Infantry will be glad to hear that the rumour that he is considering transferring to the A.C.C. is definitely untrue.
On the Riches Cup, Waterloo Platoon did very well under the able leadership of J/Sgt. Yule, in gaining third position in the overall placings.
In the inter-company football competition the company team has reached the finals and it is hoped that they can defeat the challenge put up by 'A' Company.
