Leader Magazine
DECEMBER 1960.
'C' COMPANY NOTES.
At the start of term, J/CSM Lawes and J/Bdr Hayward were in the team representing the Regiment at Altcar, in the Command Rifle Meeting. J/Bdr Hayward, who was also first in the unit to get grade 1 rates of pay, came sixth, and J/CSM Lawes ninth. Thanks go to Capt Shepherd, their coach.
Tunisia won the platoon cross-country and J/Sig Byrne was first home, and against the Bangor and Aberystwyth Universities he again came first, a very fine performance.
The Novices Boxing was ably supported by Rhine Troop, who produced seven Class A finalists. It was unfortunate that the match with the RASC Junior Leaders had to be cancelled.
At half term, the Company went to Menai Bridge, with our catering staff of the last term, S/Sgt Raine, Cpl Beattie, and Pte Slavin, who produced their usual superb service. On the Saturday, almost all the Company went either to Manchester or Liverpool. On Sunday, in beautiful sunshine everyone climbed Snowdon.
