Reminiscences of Rene (Acker) Dee
My Life And Times | ||
I joined the Intelligence Corps and AAJLR on 17 April 1962 and following the usual 'R' Company stint became a member of Knightsbridge Platoon, 'A' Company. I graduated in December 1963 as a J/Cpl.
During my time at Tonfanau, I completed the D of E Gold Award and received this personally from Prince Philip in Buckingham Palace on 26 November 1963.
From Tonfanau I went to the I.Corps HQ which at that time was in Maresfield, Sussex. During my time there I successfully completed a R.M. Commando Course in Lympstone, Devon from August to October 1964.
I was posted to Singapore on 18 August 1965 and seconded to the Int. Platoon of 3 Cdo. Brigade HQ. I stayed there until 18 July 1966 when I returned back to the UK and the new I.Corps HQ at Ashford, Kent.
I left the I.Corps and H.M. Forces on 18 October 1966 as a L/Cpl.
I was given the name Acker at Tonfanau because I played the clarinet and, in particular, Acker Bilk's 'Stranger On The Shore'. |
