Leader Magazine
WINTER 1961.
'C' COMPANY NOTES.
Since the last notes were written several old faces are with us no longer. Captain Cormack has joined his Regiment in Aden, 2/Lt. Paige is now a civilian and Sgt. Hobday has joined his Regiment in Leicester. In their places, Captain Goddard, R.A.S.C., 2/Lt. Askew, R.Sigs., Lt. Earnshaw, Int.Corps, Sgt. Nundy, K.O.S.B., and Sgt. Ward, Int. Corps, have arrived.
This term started with us, rather disappointingly, losing the first round of the Football Cup, despite having twelve members of the Regimental Club. We have, however, made up for this by winning the Cross Country by a very convincing margin. Alamein Platoon, under J/Sig. Herbert, won by no less than 186 points. It was a team from this platoon which, under J/Sgt. Heaton, won the Riches Cup by three points from a platoon of 'B' Company. The Basketball Shield is also ours; we beat A and D Companies, and our team now goes forward to represent the Regiment.
A very enjoyable weekend was had at Menai early in the term. The Signals Exercise was particularly interesting, even if any listening monitors heard entirely new forms of procedure. J/Tpr. Glenn effectively sabotaged the opposing force by sending messages on their net.
At the end of term we have no less than forty-seven Junior Leaders graduating to man's service. Their contribution to Company activities will be badly missed and we wish them the best of luck.
