Open Day: The section attack demonstration.
by J/Pte. Douglas "A" Company.
As part of Commonwealth Technical Training Week, we had an open day here on Tuesday, 18th May. This enabled people from nearby towns to come and see how a Junior Leaders Regiment is run. In the afternoon of the open day there were quite a few people here.
The afternoon started with Go-Kart racing on the square, which was followed by two demonstrations by the Infantry continuation boys. These started with a patrol setting out to capture a prisoner at night. I was one of the patrol. The capture went off very well and we got away without any injuries. Next there was a section attack by day performed by some of the other boys. After this the square was cleared and the band marched on to give their display which was enjoyed by all.
During the afternoon people were given the opportunity of seeing around the other training wings and the education blocks. At night the hobby huts were open and many people walked around to see what kinds of hobbies we do. The patrol and section attack took place again at night and like the bands display, which was also repeated, went off without a hitch.
I think visitors went home with a very good impression of many of the things which the Regiment does.
