DECEMBER 1960.
THE VISIT OF THE REGIMENTAL BAND OF THE
1st BATTALION THE LANCASHIRE REGIMENT.
by 'Euph'.
On the 8th October we were favoured by a visit from the band of the 1st Bn The Lancashire Regiment (P.W.V.), under Bandmaster Moore, MBE ARCM. The visit served to remind us of the part of bands in military life.
Although the weather was down to the usual weekend level, the band gave a sparkling display of figure- and counter-marching on the square at noon, to provide a fore-taste of the music to come.
The evening performance was in the AKC Cinema, and was excellent. It was pleasant to see that a number of local civilians had taken advantage of the invitation by the Commandant, and were present to enjoy such a fine exposition by military musicians.
The programme was light and well-balanced, though there was plenty of scope for the band to show its paces. It is hard to pick out any of the selections, so good were all, but the two pieces for xylophone were very popular and "Ragtime Basses", with none of the old "oopah", was terrific.
Mr. Moore has now become Director of Music of the Second (Sirmoor Rifles) Gurkha Rifles. He is to be congratulated on this well-deserved promotion.
In conclusion may we say that visits from the Bands of the other regiments connected with us would be the keenest of pleasures.
