Leader Magazine
DECEMBER 1960.
CYCLING CLUB NOTES.
The club has now been operational for over a year and now has 40 members and 24 cycles, a gift from the Nuffield Trust. In the summer, the Regiment was represented in the Army Cycling Union events, the 25 and 50 mile Roar Time Trial Championships, in both of which events third place was gained in the Junior Leader sections. Both these were very creditable performances, and gained for the teams the congratulations of the organisers.
In addition, there have been the recreational aspects of cycling. In spite of forbidding weather, two trips have been undertaken, one of which involved a night spent under canvas in rather trying conditions, the other a trip of forty miles in about two and a half hours.
The Cycling Club is very interested in anyone who has experience of competitive racing, but the purpose of the club is not solely tied to this aspect of the sport. There is a need for a good team, but enjoyment is also a major aim of the club.
